Dyslexia BOP is now also offering psychometric testing for dyslexia
The Davis® programs described on this site and psychometric testing are separate and distinct services which are provided in their own distinct contexts on separate schedules.
1) WIAT-III Dyslexia Index Score
This is a targeted screening test that differentiates between two groups (dyslexic / non dyslexic) and establishes if a person is at risk or not at risk to belong to the dyslexic group.
It shows weaknesses in basic reading, reading fluency and spelling skills which is then computed into six categories (very low risk, low, elevated, moderate, high and very high risk).
This is a first step screening test and contributes to a diagnosis in order to identify appropriate support but should not be used as stand-alone identification of dyslexia – it is part of a larger test battery.
The WIAT-lll Dyslexia Index Score can be applied to children as young a grade 1 up to adults and takes between 15 – 20 min to administer. The cost for the test is $ 150.00 + GST ($172.50)
2) WIAT-III (Wechsler Individual Achievement Test® - 3rd Edition)
The WIAT-lll is a broad educational assessment that identifies where the student's abilities lie across educational domains, and over the whole academic spectrum (Enhanced Listening Comprehension, Oral Expression, Written Expression subtests, Enhanced Reading Comprehension, Oral Reading, Math Fluency, and Early Reading Skills).
Individual sub-tests can be administered to explore specific areas more deeply, for example if the student is specifically lacking phonological awareness, reading comprehension or specifically writing, additional sub-tests can be added. This allows ways to identify patterns of strengths and weaknesses.
It is no longer a requirement to have a diagnosis of dyslexia to qualify for reader / writer or extra time, even in NCEA exams - the focus is now on establishing a history of the student's learning challenges. A psychometric test like the WIAT-lll establishes that history and is recognized by the Ministry of Education as a suitable test to establish learning challenges.
The WIAT-lll is suitable for Grade 1 – 13 students as well as anyone between the ages of 6 – 50years +. Administration takes between 2 – 2.5 hrs and the total cost for the intake interview, administration, scoring and preparing the report is $ 425 +GST ($488.75). This assessment can be administered via zoom.
